María Pagés to perform in Sydney
Once again, flamenco fans have not been forgotten, as Sydney's international dance festival prepares for another sell out season.Award-winning flamenco dancer and choreographer María Pagés will perform for the first time in Australia come August 2012.In a fusion performance along-side the modern moorish style of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, María Pagés will perform to a hallucinatory live score composed by Szymon Brzoska and Rubén Lebaniegos that combines touches of Flamenco and Arabic music featuring two singers, piano, guitar, violin and percussion.
‘María Pagés is the ‘flamenco dancer with the endless arms’, and Sidi Larbi is like liquid in the way he moves. The music, the lights, everything about it just takes you away.’ Rafael Bonachela
Dunas is a performance that has travelled to many world stages from Madrid (2009) to London (2011). In the last few months Dunas has visited Austria, France and back home to Spain. The show will then come to the Sydney Opera House, with its Phillippe Genty style staging where stretch fabric represents a sand dune landscape and transforms into puppet-like creations, prop effects and shadow play.Tickets officially go on sale on June 13th, with priority tickets available now (June 6th).Venue: Drama TheatreDates: 22 - 26 August (post show Q&A 25 August)Duration: 75 minutes with no interval http://www.sydneyoperahouse.com/whatson/dunas.aspx MARÍA PAGÉS MASTERCLASS Sydney Opera House : Drama Theatre20th Aug 2 – 3:30pm http://bit.ly/mariapages-masterclass We will have more exciting news for Flamenco Australia Magazine readers soon...
